Memoir of Memories

May 29, 2007 · 4 Comments

This post is going to be dedicated to a few specific memories I’ve collected over the years. Most of them are pretty recent ones.

Chillies 2007: Well that was a very memorable night. A couple of days before the event I was really worried that I might not win anything and that made me reach out for my dose of rubber bands ( I tend to fidget with rubber bands when nervous). But I won two Silvers and 2 bronze. Special thanks to Iffy and the team who helped approve the lines when the client got cold feet. It’s such an awesome feeling when you’re rewarded for something you put so much effort into.

Get Wet Party: What a party. I didn’t think it was going to be all that fun, it wasn’t until someone started squirting people with a water gun, and then came the buckets and hoses. Everyone was clearly high on the excitement rather than the alcohol.

Phantom: Basically I learned to deal with a wide variety of people from young to old, from weirdo’s to the geeky, from insane to the sane. Before I got involved with the workshop players I thought that was the only one with a terrible temper …well that was until I met the director.

Venice: I didn’t enjoy this production as much as I enjoyed Phantom but I did meet a few fabulous people and I’ll cherish their friendships come what may.

Ginigathena: This trip was simply awesome. The walk in the night down the main avissawella road , climbing that awful and tacky looking structure, the waterfall and everything about it.

Negombo: The visit to my friend’s farm like house was utterly hilarious. Never seen pigs as huge as the ones that were there, every time I laid my eyes on those pigs they made me laugh.

Ella: The train trip was fabulous, the company was great, and the walk into the mountains was fabulous. What more could I possibly ask for.

Adfest 2006: Pattaya was just awesome; I loved the place and the people I met. It’s just that food didn’t quite agree with me as much as the trip. The highlights of the trip was the amazing Jet Ski ride, the scooty ride through the busy street and our visit to vertigo in Bangkok.

De la Salle: The trips we took via the back streets of Kotehana would forever be embedded in my mind. It’s an amazing place when I was a kid but things have changed so drastically since I went there last.

Lunuganga: I think it’s the most beautiful place I’ve been to. I feel in love with it as soon as I stepped off the bus. If I make enough money or marry a superbly rich guy I’m going to build a house like that…and guess what you’ll are invited.

Excel World: This time a few of us from the cast of Venice met up to catch up on old times…boy we also took turns visiting our childhood. The Lazer Runner was awesome. Felt like a kid after long time but that’s not something new.

Ok so I’m a bit sick of reminiscing, so I’ll end this post and hope that I’ll never forget the memories even if some are of them are in black and white.

Take a deep breath before you get onto a bus.

“Why? Because that’s as much oxygen your going to have until you reach your destination. Honestly, what’s it with people who travel by bus in Sri Lanka, why don’t they ever open the shutters that adorn every possible frame on the sides of the bus. Its understandable that the shutters are closed when it rains, but on HOT and HUMID days that’s just unthinkable. Maybe its because people are scared that the dirt and dust from outside will creep into their nostrils and choke them to death. Retarded. Or maybe its a way of preventing people from flying into the bus when an accident occurs. Oh if women are worried about ruining their hairstyles… have you ever wondered when trying to get off how difficult it is to maneuver yourself in those awfully crowed buses where people are almost standing on your laps, well then did you turn back to see whether you hair was still on your head, I guess at that moment your main concern is to get off at the right stop. I can think of a million and one things as to why the shutters are always closed. Anyway have you noticed that because the shutters aren’t opened on a regular basis they are now simply impossible to open without having to prop your feet against the front seat, teeth clenched and tug at it with all your might, while hoping that your fingers will survive the trauma. Ridiculous.

So go on open the shutters let the air circulate around that clammy armpits, the onion and garlic food fiesta that you devoured last night something that you just had to share with us on your way to work. Well apart from that I like to say “Fasten your seatbelts and look forward to a smooth ride”.
