Low Life

April 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Didn’t know a bunch of puppets could make me laugh so hard! Low Life a British Theatre outfit performed skits with puppets as central characters. I was amazed at the simplicity of set design and synchronization. It was seriously worth the 250 bucks we paid. Glad I went for it and will definitely watch them again if they come back for a visit.

Thanks Sam for making me go.

When realization hits that ignorance isn’t bliss

October 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

How does it make you feel?

I’ll tell you how it made me feel. Then maybe you’d like to share.

It was pretty much like a jolt. An embarrassing one, like when you turn a corner and a friend of yours jumps at you, and you scream making everyone turn. Then your cheeks get all red and you yell at your friend just to save face. People tend to think it’s funny. I do too but not when it happens to me. Well that’s pretty much how I felt when I watched the Kite Runner. Have you watched it?

Have you watched Batman? I bet you have. I went around asking my friends the two questions I have just asked you. 9 out of 10 have watched Batman and have liked it so much that they’ve watched it twice over. 1 out of that 10 watched the Kite Runner, and that happens to be me. It strange don’t you think that people are so interested in comic books than what really happens in the world. I guess people need entertainment to keep sane than watching 9 o’clock news or wait maybe it’s just that ignorance is bliss. Is it?

I knew there was a war in Afghanistan from flicking through the papers to read the gossip columns. I also heard a few things now and then while channel surfing, never letting my fingers linger too long on the news channel. Forget Afghanistan, my country, the war ravaged Sri Lanka. I flick, because my life hasn’t been in that kind of danger, yet. So I live life with a cursory glance at what’s really happening. Terrible isn’t it?

As strange as this may sound… I want to do something about it. Oh no I can’t stop the war nor can I make the whole world listen to me. That’s the very thing I don’t want to do. I could though show more empathy. Listen to people more carefully. Forgive often. Talk to everybody. Offer to help, anytime. Stop being selfish.

It’s tough but its better to understand humanity that stay disconnected from it.

DJ put a record on

August 20, 2008 · 6 Comments

Ever since I walked into a club as a wee toddler (14 to be precise) I’ve been fascinated with DJ’s. The ones who spin discs on vinyl at every rave and teenybopper party have kept me literally on my toes and most often in my throbbing heart. I always want to be the center of attention at every party so the best way to earn respect and fame is to become a DJ.

I thought.

Now I know they were immature rantings. At one point I decided to try out as a Radio Personality but somehow the interview didn’t get very far but I’m glad my dreams weren’t meant to be because I would have been unhappy as a horse with braided hair.

I’m enrolled in a programme that is sponsored by my company so on our latest course content we had to visit a radio station. I was all happy; maybe someone would give me a chance, a chance of fame and glory. I like to point out that I don’t think I have a nice voice, I’ve done recordings for commercials and I think I sound somewhere between a duck in pain and a hamster in cardiac arrest. People actually tease me about my voice, specially a Senior Art Director who sits in front of me. Anyway moving on… realizing that I don’t have the voice to be a Radio Personality or the opportunity, I happily looked forward to the visit.

So was it interesting you ask? It was dull as ditchwater. The Jocks do nothing a part from scratch their balls so if you’re a woman er!! Just joking. Actually they don’t do even that, they sit in front of a mic and look at a computer monitor that has a gazillion coloured blinking stuff, which you’ve got to click from time to time. Then the Jocks try to be funny while they go on air, they say some smart ass thing while only they understand because most often it’s a ‘private joke’. What the fricks? So I ask the guy who was taking us around whether they get to choose the songs. If they are lucky they might but it’s only the night time DJ’s who get that privilege that’s because everyone’s asleep, me thinks. So it’s bloody boring, unless of course you’re Ryan Seacrest and you live in the States…tut tut

Hancock- Cocked up

A super hero is supposed to be a superhero! He is not supposed to be a drunken mess, who utters obscenities and doesn’t care about other people. He is supposed to hate the bad guys and he most definitely is a ’save the world’ kinda guy.

Yeah but I know they wanted to break the cliché. Did it work? No!

I’m so disappointed. Disappointed with Charlize Theron and Will Smith because I used to like them before this superhero failure. I can’t understand why in the world they would want to do a movie of this nature, it
didn’t even look like fun… ok maybe the part where Charlize unleashes her power and hurls Hancock through the wall and onto the road, crash, smack, bang into a car. Ha I would like to do that sometime. Oh and also the part where Hancock tries to check how strong she actually is. Those are the only fun parts in the whole movie. Such a shame!

The Forbidden Kingdom- Crap

2 questions about this movie.

Why do most Martial Art movies start in a Chinese Pawnshop in the States?

Why does the end look a lot similar to Narnia?

It was a crappy movie and I’m never gonna watch another Jackie Chan movie again.. Nuff said.

Let me recommend ‘The House of Flying Daggers’ for a real Martial Arts movie with good choreography , acting and plot.

And I went for a Cello Ensemble

July 15, 2008 · 4 Comments

Classical music has never been a favorite of mine, it not that I don’t appreciate it…its just that I need to be in the right mood, the right ambience and if there must be company then the right kind. So an auditorium
where love starved girls giggle behind you and smart alecks who can’t pronounce ‘minor’ is just not the right ambience. The fact that I was after a stressful day at work didn’t help and the company I was with didn’t quite cut it either. So I left feeling like I shouldn’t have gone in the first place.

I was happy to see my drama teacher play, I still remember hearing her play the cello in the far corner of the academy. The only boy who was playing the cello there was absolutely stunning. Maybe one day I’ll find a boyfriend who can play an instrument (Ahem no not that instrument), it’s amazing how quick their fingers move along the strings.

While I was sitting there amongst the bad ambience and the awful sound projection I was thinking how I’m always in awe when things work to timing, whether it’s music, dance, acting or a well timed joke. At times like those I instantly jrop my daw.

Juno – Overrated

So I watched it. After listening to my friend’s yap about how good it was.

It was simply (yawn) boring. Maybe I’m being a little too harsh but it was boring, it was so boring I had to watch it in two couch sittings. I do agree that it was a different kind of movie but it wasn’t interesting. She seemed to me like she was making such as effort to be cool. It’s strange but I’ve always noticed that people in their early teens and late teens try really hard to be intellectual because they think that’s what’s cool. But I think it’s pathetic. The other thing about Juno that I didn’t like is how she approached the teenage pregnancy issue in such a witty way. If all high school students behave like that the world will definitely be a wonderful place in the future.

Picture this, sometime soon a teenage girl finds herself pregnant. She confronts her parents.

Girl: Mom, I’m pregnant.

Parents: What? What the hell? You’re grounded for the rest of your life!
You’ve disgraced all of us!

Girl: But Mom I can handle it.

Parents: Are you crazy?

Girl: Oh come on, if Juno did it, it’s a piece of cake.

Beware parents your kids might be strongly influenced by witty Juno because having a baby is no big deal.

21 – Cool

This is my kind of movie. Loved it. My only concern with the movie was that it could have been shot better.

Bucket List- Nice

After I dried my eyes, I was inspired to write down my bucket list.

Countries I want to visit-Greece, Egypt, Australia, Europe, America

Places I want to see – The Great Wall, Himalayas, Venice, Niagara Falls, The
Watchtower Head Office in Brooklyn and Patterson.

Things I want to witness- An International Convention, my wedding.

I’m sure there’s more to the list but I can’t think of more at the moment.

Narnia – Cool

Didn’t anyone tell Ben Barnes what his role in the movie was? I mean come on
the guy looked lost. That or he can’t act. Well apart from Prince Caspian I enjoyed the movie.

The Great Debaters – Awesome

I’ve always liked the movies with Denzel Washington, so I knew I was going to like this even before I watched it. Amazing stuff, the cast is super, the Texan drawl is fabulous and the Wiley Debate Team rocks.

Starter for 10 – Great

I think I’m beginning to love James McAvoy. The first movie of his that I watched was the Last King of Scotland. It was a good movie. Starter for 10 is especially good and I love the casting. Blonde bimbo, slightly awkward girl who is smart, geek freak boy, cute macho friend, obese friend and girlfriend’s demented parents. Watch it to believe it.

Hulk – Cool

I really liked Edward Norton’s acting, he looked so terrified that it was sweet. Ok I’m kidding. Anyway the only part I didn’t like was Liv Tyler, she seemed so fake in comparison to the animation. Sources say part 2 will star the Avengers. We’ll see.
